Banning Food Additives in Utah Public Schools

The Independent American Party (IAP) and several Utah advocacy groups are working to prohibit certain chemical food additives from school lunches in Utah Public Schools.

Seal of the State of Utah

The IAP is seeking to put Utah on par with what Texas has done by banning these ingredients in Utah Public Schools. Research has shown that some of these additives are banned in other countries or carry warning labels for causing attention problems in children. Below is a portion of SB314 introduced in Texas.

Additives we’re seeking to ban

  1. Brominated vegetable oil
  2. Potassium bromate
  3. Propylparaben
  4. Azodicarbonamide
  5. Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA)
  6. Red dye
  7. Titanium dioxide
